Acne vulgaris is defined as a chronic inflammatory condition of the pilosebaceous unit. The disease affects many people in their teens and often continues into adulthood, but acne vulgaris can present in different times throughout an individual’s lifetime. Some people are more severely affected than others and will have a higher risk of permanent damage and scarring.

In an attempt to better formulate strategies for effectively treating this condition, it is important to understand the underlying challenges as well as the factors contribute to the disease. At Lamelle, we also have to consider treatments that can be used long term without the risk of adverse reactions.

The target of the Clarity range is to influence the four triggers of acne:

1. Anti-Inflammatory therapy
2. Suppression of sebum production (seborrhoea) and prevention of squalene oxidation
3. Normalising follicle cell differentiation and shedding, especially in the opening of the pore
4. Reducing p. acnes bacterial load

The four primary treatment areas (and three secondary ones) have not changed with the newly upgraded Clarity moisturisers. There is a much bigger focus on the management of sebum production, preventing the oxidisation of squalene and lowering the bacterial load, while more anti-inflammatory ingredients have been added to the new Clarity Correctives PM Plus.
