“Hi, my name is Josias Stephanus du Toit, but most people call me Stéan. I was born and raised in a small town called Swellendam. Like most people from these rural areas, I am a product of a farmer and a teacher. My family is made up of me, my parents and two older sisters. Even though my circumstances and upbringing are the only ones I know, I can honestly say that I am thankful for the more conservative small town, family-orientated, Christian-valued environment I was raised in.

In 2018 I completed my degree in Molecular biology and biotechnology, with Microbiology and Biochemistry as my majors. I then went on to do my Honours in Microbiology, which I completed in 2019.
I decided to partake in the Mr. South Africa journey to discover whether this is an area where I can be used to bring positive change, awareness and to help others in need.

My hobbies and interests include running, hiking, swimming, gym training and CrossFit. I also regularly volunteer through my church at a soup kitchen every Thursday in Cloetesville.”

I have honestly had a very pleasant experience thus far with everyone at SkinMiles and felt very welcome when going in for a consultation. Vashnee, the skin therapist that assisted me and tested my skin for sun damage etc. was both polite and captivating. She did not only make me feel comfortable through her humour, but she also explained everything she did, the results gained and the potential skincare approach.

Dr Alek has also been very kind and quick to respond when there is any query or question regarding partnership, skincare or future prospects. I trust the team at SkinMiles, and I am excited to see where the journey will take us.

Q: Why is SkinMiles sponsoring Stéan on his Mr South Africa journey?
A: “After Stéan contacted us for sponsorship we arranged a meeting and learnt that he had a keen interest in skincare through his mom. He was using a specific regime and was receiving chemical peels from time to time. So, this seemed a perfect fit for us especially considering this is a local SA competition and we wanted to contribute back to proudly SA brands.”

Q: How is SkinMiles supporting Stéan?
A: “We are doing this in a number of ways:
Firstly, by providing a detailed skin consultation and VISIA skin analysis taking into consideration his current skin concerns and what he would like to improve. We also looked at his lifestyle.
Secondly, we provided products to improve the overall health and glow of his skin, which we think is vital for the competition.
Thirdly we will be increasing his personal awareness in the competition to hopefully help him achieve his goal in winning Mr SA 2020.

And finally, we have arranged monthly consultations and VISIA skin analysis to monitor progress and change the regime if necessary.”
